Cllr Tomás Sharkey, Sinn Fein Louth, Dundalk South
Tomás Sharkey is a native of Blackrock and has lived in Muirhevna Mór and Kilkerley. He studied at Queen’s University of Belfast and the National University of Ireland in Maynooth. Is múinteoir Gaeilge é working with the Department of Education in providing training for teachers. He is married to local business woman Caroline Slevin and they reside in Knockbridge.
Tomás replaced Arthur Morgan as a County Councillor in 2003. He has represented the Dundalk/Carlingford electoral area and now represents the Dundalk South area since 2009 when he topped the poll and now since 2014 when he topped the poll again. He has represented the people of Louth on the HSE Regional Health Forum and worked tirelessly to oppose the downgrading of Louth County Hospital. Tomás sits on the Louth/Meath Education and Training Board and he spearheaded the opening of Coláiste Lú, a new all Irish second level school which opened its doors in September 2013.
He has led a number of initiatives to improve transparency and accountability in the Local Authority and will continue to do so.
Tomás is currently on the Economic Development Enterprise Support SPC (Special Policy Committee) on Louth County Council.
