Cllr Joanna Byrne, Sinn Fein Louth, Drogheda Ward
Joanna Bryne has been co-opted to replace Imelda Munster TD on Louth County Council, when she was elected as the county’s first ever female TD. Joanna, who has been an active member of the party for several years, will now serve the party in the Drogheda area.
Joanna (30) is a retail manager but has resigned her position in order to pursue being a full-time councillor as her predecessor did in 2004. Joanna has been a member of the Bobby Sands Cumann in Drogheda for a number of years and was very active throughout the Local Government elections in 2014 and in Imelda Munster’s recent General Election campaign.
Joanna hit the ground running as she has been appointed the Chair of the House SPC (Special Policy Committee).
On her co-option Cllr Joanna Byrne said “We are here to represent the people, to leave no person behind, to make sure everyone has the same rights as everyone else and we are all treated equally as it is written in the Proclamation and we won’t go far wrong.”
Joanna Byrne is a strong advocate for LGBT rights and had the honour of cutting the ribbon on the very first Pride Week held in Drogheda in 2016. Joanna is vehemently opposed to Water Charges and is following in her predecessors footsteps by calling for them to be scrapped.
